She's my best friend every day — and basically my shadow 24/7 — but on the days that are difficult, my dog has never let me down when it comes to offering emotional support. I don't know how she knows, but she can tell when I'm sad, sick, dealing with a major migraine, or just plain having a bad day. Without a single word, she sticks to me like glue. The entire time I was pregnant with my daughter, she never left my side, even more than usual. Dogs, man. We don't deserve them!

Sure, it's nice to have human friends who can, you know, speak out loud and have conversations with you, but in those moments you don't want to talk, you'd be hard pressed to find a better support system than a dog. That's something that this little boy in the video below has figured out, even at such a young age.

On Thursday, August 20, dog mom @stormy_the_gsp shared this incredibly precious moment between her German Shepherd puppy, Snickers, and her son at a time when he really needed a friend.

"My son had a rough day today, so he got in here to snuggle Snickers, and I found them like this," she wrote.

This sweet boy climbed into the play pen with his puppy, who clearly knew what needed to be done. They're cuddled up together, and Snickers has put her head on her kid's head, snuggling up as close as possible to make sure he feels loved.

Of course, commenters are gushing over how special their bond is already, with one person writing, "Snickers understood the assignment." That he did.

Can Dogs Sense When We're Having a Bad Day?

It's not just sheer luck: Dogs actually can sense when you're sick or sad and could use a little extra love. They're very perceptive that way!

“If we’re sullen, sad, or crying, those are behaviors that are not unique to us. Depending on your bond and relationship with your dog and their age, they can sense a wide range of emotions," dog trainer Robert Haussmann told The Wildest.

As the site points out, dogs are able to differentiate between positive and negative emotions, and they use that emotional intelligence to pick up on the mood we're putting out, along with cues from the way we talk to whether or not we're crying.

Your dog may even lick you when you're sad, and since that's how they'd comfort another dog, that's their way of trying to comfort you, too.

What would we ever do without dogs? I am glad we do not ever have to find out.
