Golden Retriever's Sadness Over Rain Preventing His Daily Walk Has People Saying Aww

Rainy days are a summer staple, and they're pretty polarizing. Lots of people hate the rain, while others (me) use it as an excuse to forget about putting on real pants. Instead, we get out our favorite blanket, turn on our comfort TV show, and give ourselves a pass.

Giving yourself a lazy pass gets harder when you have a dog, though. On August 23rd, one dog mom decided to forego her pup's daily walk/park trip because of the rain. Instead, she had to deal with his big feelings, and there were definitely a lot of them:

Fernanda Miller will just have to make up for this with double walk/park trips for the rest of her life. That should even the score!

Fernanda lives in Colorado with her husband and their sweet Golden Retriever, Benny. Colorado is just about the most perfect place for a Golden: there are plenty of outdoor hikes for them, lots of bodies of water for them to go crazy over, and the weather is generally perfect for them.

Unfortunately, what's perfect for dogs and what's perfect for humans are different. While Benny would be fine playing in the rain and getting as muddy as a pig in the summertime, his mom just isn't up to it. Thus, they find inside things to do, and one of the things they try is an exercise called, "apologizing to Benny profusely."

Fun Ways to Entertain Your Dog Inside

There are two types of walks we take out dogs on: necessary potty walks and fun walks. Potty walks are quick: get out, go do your business, and go back inside. These are the morning and night walks. Then, at least once a day, most dog parents also take their dog on a longer walk.

While even rain can't get in the way of a potty walk, it can definitely interrupt the fun walk: they don't technically need that one, and if it's really coming down, we don't want to go. If that's the case, there are some ways to keep your dog happy even without walks:

1. Play fetch with them in a big area where they can run around.
2. Give them a new toy on a rainy day to keep them occupied.
3. Turn on a visually stimulating TV show for them to watch.
4. Give them lick mats with a special treat on them.
5. Give them a bath; Golden Retrievers love water, and it's as good a time as any!

Poor Benny is obviously suffering in this video, but his mom will make it up to him. He'll get to the park again someday!
