Livestock guardian dogs have a ton of work to do. They spend all day and all night making sure the animals are safe. They communicate with each other, and without them, all of the animals could be in danger.

That doesn't mean that all of the animals understand how serious their job is, and it also doesn't mean that the pups aren't willing to play along every once in a while. Take, for example, this video from August 21st, when a couple of kids decided they needed to play with their Anatolian Shepherd bestie:

Crab Orchard Creek's mix of dogs and animals are just too funny. As grumpy as their livestock guardian dogs look, there's no denying they secretly love all the animals they protect:

There are three dogs in this video: Leroy (their oldest), Kedi, and Kaan (the one the baby goats are after). All three of them have been subjected to the whims of these sweet goat babies at one time or another, though Leroy and Kaan tend to be their favorites to annoy. Someone in the comments pointed out that he's a little bit like those royal guards outside Buckingham Palace: always a tough exterior.

Though he's sleeping before it's time to hit the night shift, Kaan doesn't mind the kids jumping around or even on him. He can take it, and realistically, them being close to him is a surefire way to keep them safe. If they're bothering him, they can't get snatched!

    Are Livestock Guardian Dogs Nice?

A lot of people assume that livestock guardians will attack and even fatally wound anything that gets too close, and they'll do so without remorse. While there are most likely some farmers who definitely do prefer their dogs that way, most of the time, it's not true.

Livestock guardian dogs form bonds with the farm animals they're protecting, the other livestock guardians, and even the herding dogs on the farm. They have boundaries and will remind animals not to overstep, but there's rarely an all-out brawl - livestock guardian dogs are not feral. Additionally, they still need to interact with humans often, whether it be the farmer, their family, or the vet they go to for their regular checkups.

As a whole, livestock guardian dogs are just dogs, and they definitely are nice, as long as you're nice. Before you attempt to pet an LGD, always make sure it's okay with both the farmer and the dog!
