Maine Coon cats are some of the most mystical cats money can buy. They're absolutely massive, and they're super fluffy, and to top it all off, they're so sweet it's crazy. A Maine Coon cat could make even the most vehement dog people stop and smile.

Even though they grow up to be some of the biggest cats around, it takes them a surprisingly long time to get there. On Sunday, August 25th, one woman took to TikTok with her big Maine Coon in her arms to give us the scoop about their growth:

Wild Mane Maine Coons truly seems to know everything their is to know about this incredible breed, and I'm grateful. Nothing makes me happier than learning about these beautiful cats!

Wild Mane Maine Coons is one of the most well-known Maine Coon catteries on TikTok, and for good reason. Not only does the owner of the business have the most gorgeous cats, but she spends a lot of time on TikTok educating people about the breed and why they should (and, honestly, shouldn't) get one. This video is one of dozens of educational tidbits she's shared!

In this video, she holds up Cobra, one of her male Maine Coons that she breeds. She actually bred him herself, and he's two years old and an absolute unit, but according to her, he's not even close to done growing yet. Maine Coons don't reach full-grown until somewhere between 4 and 5 years of age, with males ending up at an average of 25lbs. and females at anywhere from 10-15lbs!

How to Tell if a Maine Coon Is Full-Grown

If you purchase your kitty from a cattery, they'll be able to tell you exactly how old the cat is, sometimes even down to the exact minute they were born. However, there are some times you'll be able to find Maine Coons in shelters or rescues, and they might not always have an exact answer. They go off what the surrenderer said if they can, and if not they make educated guesses.

A vet will be able to tell you more accurately how old your cat is, but there are some trademarks of a full-grown Maine Coon:

    1. Their mane is full and fluffy, often with fur at the tips of their ears.
    2. A full-grown, pure-bred Maine Coon will typically stand between 20-24inches at the shoulder.
    3. They have longer, larger teeth.
    4. Their coat is much longer.

The first two years, Maine Coons grow like weeds, but their coats are more sparse. However, when they reach around that two-year mark, physical growth may slow and they start to fill out. If your Maine Coon has that iconic Maine Coon style to them, you can safely say they're either full-grown or close to it!
