Baby Farm Kitten Learns to 'Keep the Chickens in Line' and He's the Best

Kittens are some of the most impressionable little beings ever. When they're young, you can teach a kitten to do just about anything, from using the litter box to surviving on their own. If you need to train a cat, do it while they're young!

On August 24th, a farmer showed off that she's training her kitten for one super important purpose: keeping all of the chickens from doing anything crazy. He's starting young, and from the looks of it, he's doing an amazing job:

Now that @helloimamanduhh has introduced this kitten to the chickens, I bet they'll be besties in no time. Once they get over him!

The funniest part about this cat is that he's a stray! When he first wandered onto this small hobby farm, he had no home, and she took him in. However, since moving in, he's discovered that there are chickens of the property. At first, he was not sure how he felt about them, but weeks have gone by since then and he feels much more comfortable now.

He's an indoor/outdoor cat now; he goes out with mom to tend to the chickens, but he goes inside whenever his mom isn't out to supervise him. He's adjusting perfectly to this life; she claims that he's just as wild when he's inside with her as he is when he sees his chickens. Pretty soon, he'll be able to handle them all on his own!

Stray Cats Are a Farm's Best Friend

In this instance, Amanda just has some chickens in her yard; it's the small, hobby-type farm everyone dreamed of starting during the pandemic. She followed through, though, and now her farm is complete with a very sweet cat.

The truth is, most farms (especially the big ones) have at least one cat on the property. They're feral cats, and they often won't interact with farmers much at all, but that's the goal. Their sole purpose on most farms is to control the rodent population, which always exists: rats, squirrels, and chipmunks love hay and grain, of which there is an abundance in just about any barn.

Barn cats can be acquired in a few different ways, like through barn cat rescues or programs. However, stray cats can become barn cats if you let them, too! As you would with any cat, you should be sure any cats in your care are spayed/neutered and vaccinated, which you can accomplish by trapping them. Or, if they're like this sweet boy, you might not even need to bother!
