Pup cups are a very simple pleasure, and they really go a long way in making a dog feel special. When dogs are stuck in shelters, it can be hard to make them feel special - that's not the shelter's fault, it's just a fact of life.

So on Monday, August 26th, one shelter employee returned to give a very deserving dog a pup cup. She tries to bring them once a week, and last week's pup cup delivery left this sweet girl empty-handed. Not this time:

I'm glad that Julie Saraceno made good on last week's mistake, and so is the rest of the internet.

The sweet girl in this video is named Birdie, and she's available for adoption at the Benton Franklin Humane Society in Kennewick, Washington. Birdie currently has the entire internet behind her: last week, we got to see a video of her looking forlorn when there weren't enough pup cups for her to have one.

After rallying cries and demands, Julie returned bright and early this Monday morning with a fresh tray of pup cups, and she let us all know that Birdie didn't just get one: she got the first one. She was ecstatic, just like she'd be ecstatic eating them in her forever home. If I was closer, Birdie would be home with me in a heartbeat!

Easy Ways to Make Shelter Dogs Feel Special

Whether you work, volunteer, or just want to be kind to the pups who need it most, there are tons of low-cost, low-effort ways to make sure a shelter dog still feels like they're loved and cared for. You could do things like:

    1. Give them lots of one-on-one time.
    2. Offer them special treats catered to what they like to eat.
    3. If you have the resources to donate, try calling and inquiring about some of the specific dogs' favorite kinds of toys.
    4. Bring them on walks by themselves.
    5. Give them a special blanket, collar, or even a little costume.

When dogs feel loved, they're more likely to act like they're loved, which could lead to them being adopted easier. Dogs who are anxious in shelters can be a little off-putting to prospective parents. Additionally, those "special" little things can help them stand out! The more memorable they are, the more likely someone will be to keep thinking about them and, eventually, come back for them.

Birdie felt super special when she got her pup cup, and it legitimately helped her go viral. The more eyes we get on a dog , the more likely it is that they'll be adopted!
