Maltipoos are truly about as city as it gets. Everything from their name to their perfectly groomed coats and the bows that often get put in their hair just scream, "I prefer to join my mom for a manicure at the nail salon!"
At least, such was the case for one Maltipoo in particular. She's a city pup through and through, but on August 25th, her mom decided to bring her along on a trip to the wilderness. Granted, they were totally glamping, but she loved it:
Macaroni the Maltipoo is the sweetest girl, possibly ever, but definitely on this trip. She loves the wilderness! Who knew?

Roni is a city girl. She's just over two years old, and she's lived in the hustle and bustle of New York City her entire life. She goes on daily walks and probably gets to sniff lots of interesting things on the street every day, but she's never really experienced the wilderness before, even from the comfort of a gorgeous cabin.
When she saw it, she loved it. She wags her tail like crazy, leans against the massive window, and is all but begging to go out and explore. Who knows, maybe she'll make friends with another dog, or she'll form a cartoon-like friendship with a bear who will teach her to sing songs about the woods. If she's lucky, maybe her parents will let her have a small bite of a s'more, minus the chocolate!
How to Prepare City Dogs For a Camping Trip
Whether you're roughing it in a sleeping bag or headed to a cabin for a luxurious wild getaway, it will definitely be a little bit of a culture shock for your pup. The wilderness is quiet in ways the city will never be, but it's also loud in ways cities aren't. There are different smells and chances they'll run into lots of things they've never seen before.
There are some steps you'll want to take before, during, and after a camping trip to make sure they have all the fun in the world:
- Get them a strong leash/collar that won't break (this is important for hikes!).
- Pack plenty of food and a few extra bottles of water to bring with you.
- Play some "wilderness" sounds for them in the days leading up to the trip.
- My city girl is totally infatuated with the Hatch Restore forest sounds.
- When you get there, avoid letting them go out by themselves , and don't let small dogs off-leash.
- Don't let them eat anything or drink from rivers, lakes, ponds, or puddles.
- Check them daily for ticks or fleas.
- Clean up after them - yes, even in the wilderness.
- When you get home, give them a good bath to wash all of the wilderness off of them and monitor them for signs of illness. Luckily, Roni's venture into being wild
Luckily, Roni's venture into being wild went off without a hitch, and it's definitely something she'll be wanting to do again. How could it not be? There were so many new things for her to smell!
