    Settle down ladies!

And I'm not talking about the dogs here, who all wait so sweetly and patiently for their bite of cracker.

    Treats work wonder.

The majority of good dog trainers will tell you that the best training techniques involve positive reinforcement. Find out what motivates your pip, whether that be a delicious treat, extra playtime, or a lot of affection and employ that anytime they do a new trick or command you are teaching them.

You should never, ever, strike your dog or yell at them, during training or otherwise.

Stick to the same words and gestures for each command to avoid confusing your dog. Meaning if you want your dog to sit and you say sit , the next time don't say sit down or be a good boy and sit down . Keep it simple. Make sure everyone who lives in your house is following the same commands so your pup doesn't get confused.

Dogs learn at different paces, so be patient and avoid getting frustrated if they don't pick up commands right away. Be consistent and train them every day for best results.

Make sure you look at your dog's body language and if they seems stressed or confused pick up training again tomorrow. Try and train away from distractions in a quiet area too. Training outside can be difficult due to your dog seeing squirrels or hearing kids playing.

Always end any training on a positive note to keep your dog motivated for training sessions, which means giving them a treat or a belly rub and a lot of good boys or good girls when you are done for the day!
