Some pets are overlooked in shelters for various reasons, despite having the coolest, most fun-loving personalities. Earl the orange cat can relate. Rescued from an unfortunate hoarding situation, this cutie with really big, adorable cheeks is looking for his forever home—and he hopes it might be you.

As you'll see in this August 22, 2024 Facebook post shared by SPCA of Wake County in North Carolina, the handsome fellow's face takes center stage and it's a real showstopper. He's absolutely adorable.

"If we hadn't seen him with our own eyes, we might call Photoshop. But nope. This is Earl—in all his thick-faced glory," the caption begins. "Fun fact: un-neutered male cats can develop big cheeks as a result of their increased testosterone. It's a secondary sex characteristic that signals to the ladies that they are big, tough, hot stuff — like a peacock parading his plumage."

The post continues: "Earl, though, took it to another level. There's big cheeks, and then there's this. Earl is neutered now, of course, but his cheeks are here to stay. On the plus side, his owners won't have to worry about him escaping through any small holes."

Many of the hundreds of commenters see Earl for the amazing feline he is, inside and out.

"Bro is holding hamsters that are holding seeds in his cheeks. SO cute!!!" one person wrote. "He’ll be an Instagram legend in no time," another said. "How many of us would fight for Earl," another joked.

    How To Adopt Earl

If you're thinking about adopting, Earl, who's estimated to be 13 years young , isn't a big fan of other cats. Due to his history, he'll do best in a home without them so he can be the star of your world. This affectionate love bug may take longer to open up because of all he's been through, so he will need someone patient and empathetic to his needs. In return, he'll do what cats do, which is to sometimes show they love you back and allow you to pet him!

In all seriousness, Earl will make a great addition for someone with the time to help him feel safe enough to open up. His cheeks may be big, but his heart is even bigger when given the chance to shine.

If you think you have what it takes to give Earl a happy ending, apply for adoption through the SPCA of Wake County today!
