Golden Retriever Dancing in the Sprinkler Is the Perfect End of Summer Vibe

Back-to-school sales are coming to an end, giving way to Labor Day sales instead. If your neighborhood kids aren't back in school yet, they will be next week!

With the end of summer break, unfortunately, comes the end of summer. Pools will start closing, people will start trading out their shorts and flip flops for sweats and Uggs, and water-loving dogs everywhere are about to be devastated. For now, though, they're enjoying their last moments of summer just like this pup:

Skylar the Golden Retriever is loving every second of her sprinkler time. While her parents don't have a pool, she gets her fill of water play in there!

Skylar is a 3-year-old Golden who loves to play any games she possible can. She has a toddler brother she loves to play with, and not just because he drops food everywhere. They have a lot of the same interests like playing ball, running through the sprinkler, and taking regularly scheduled naps.

She wasn't playing with him in this clip, but that's because she was busy dancing in the sprinkler on her own. Sometimes, you just need to have a moment between you and your favorite thing - her sprinkler obviously took precedence over anything else. Who knows how many sprinkler dancing days she has left this summer?

    Are Sprinklers Safe For Dogs?

Skylar is obviously having a good time in her sprinkler, but they are fairly controversial as far as a lot of dog parents are concerned. Water in general can be a little scary, but sprinklers add in more variables.

With a sprinkler, a dog is more likely to aspirate the water since it's flying around, which could lead to dry-drowning or aspiration pneumonia, both of which are life-threatening. However, with proper supervision, sprinkler usage is usually considered safe for dogs, and especially for large dogs.

When you set up your sprinkler for your pup, there are a few steps you should take:

    1. Make sure you're not setting it up on a lawn that's been recently treated with chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or other harsh substances.
    2. Avoid letting your dog get too close to the stream (like trying to "bite" the water ).
    3. Watch for signs of labored breathing, coughing, excessive sneezing, or sudden lethargy.
    4. As soon as they're done, give them a bath inside and blow dry them, making sure to get their ears.

Whenever your dog goes in water of any kind, making sure they're safe is the top priority and requires care before, during, and after their adventures. Otherwise, summer fun could become an expensive vet bill, and for Skylar, it would mean spending time away from her sprinkler. No way!
