Dogs thrive on routine. It helps them anticipate all the good and fun things that come next, which provides feelings of safety, comfort, and excitement. That's why when a Golden Retriever named Skylar is awakened by her toddler brother Shalom each morning, she knows it's going to be a good day.

In an August 27 TikTok video shared by @skylars.the.limitt, the sweet moment Shalom wakes Skylar is caught on camera, and we're not worthy of all its goodness. Check it out!

"POV: It's 7:30 a.m. and my toddler wakes up our Golden Retriever," the video begins as it shows a pajama-wearing Shalom walking through the house with a leash in hand. After he makes his way to the couch wear Skyler is sleeping, the video says, "Good morning, Skylar," and the tired Golden looks up with dreary eyes.

The 14-second clip of pure love concludes with Shalom laying the leash next to the pup with the words, "Let's go for a walk," across the screen. We can only imagine what happened next (hopefully a relaxing walk).

"Cutest morning routine," the caption reads and with more than 70,000 followers watching the special relationship between these two, we agree—it definitely is. They're the ultimate definition of "bestie goals!"

Benefits of Growing Up with Dogs

Dog lovers know all the ways having doggy companions makes life so much sweeter, but the American Kennel Club shares how kids benefit from growing up with dogs.

First, they have higher self-esteem and are shown to be more loving and compassionate. Caring for a dog gives them a sense of pride and accomplishment, and they learn how to nurture and be empathetic to the dog's needs.

Dogs also become a support system when kids need someone to lean on, because their love is unconditional. The site adds, children with dogs in the house are more likely to grow up less stressed, happier, healthier, and more responsible than those that don't. Just by playing with these magnificent fur babies, kids get a serotonin boost, are more physically active, and end up generally more dependable. There are even studies that show kids' cognitive skills improve by talking to, or reading, to dogs.

Of the many reasons to welcome pups into your household, children have the most benefit as their little brains grow. As for Skylar and Shalom, they already know that and cherish every moment they have together.
