Satisfying a puppy on your own should honestly be an Olympic sport. It's almost impossible: there will always be something you're doing that makes them angry. It's just a matter of avoiding the landmines and making sure you use that anger as a lesson rather than just leaving it there to fester!

On September 1st, one mom officially discovered her new puppy's weakness: his favorite scratch spot. As soon as she finds it, you can see the change in her body language, and she knows she struck gold:

"Niko's World" is a perfect username for this pup, because it's true. It is his world, and anyone not willing to scratch his favorite spots should just get out of it.

Niko is a perfectly fine young man, and his mom says he's toned down a lot since his puppy days. Gone are the days of him chewing everything he could get his mouth on; now, he prefers to go on long walks with his mom, snuggle, watch her clean up his hair every day, and collect scratches.

Lucky for Niko, he ended up with a mom that found his perfect scratch spot. This video is just one example of her getting it for him, but there are dozens more where that came from off-camera. Look at the way his lip curls - you can see the relief he feels when she finally gets it!

How to Find Your Dog's Favorite Scratch Spots

Giving the good scratches is a surefire way to put yourself in the running for your dog's Favorite Person Award. If they know you know where to scratch, the likelihood of them coming to lie down with you increases exponentially.

Most of the time, you'll discover your pup's scratch spots organically through signals like this one. If you find a good spot, their face will change! You just have to scratch all over. Some common favorite spots for dogs are:

    1. Their butts.
    2. Their bellies.
    3. Right behind their ears.
    4. The sides of their faces.
    5. Their necks/chests.

Try to scratch spots you know they can't really reach well, but do it gently; never scratch too hard. Dogs have sensitive skin! For a fluffy boy like Niko, brushing is also a good alternative to scratching, and it keeps their coat in check. When you start looking for scratch spots, always watch for signs of skin issues like eczema, hot spots, or even fleas and ticks. Happy scratching!
