Golden Retriever Sweetly Wakes Deaf Brother to Let Him Know Parents Are Home

The bonds we have as humans with our dogs is always really special, but there's nothing quite like getting to witness the bond that dogs have with each other. Not all pups will get along, of course, but many who live in the same household will accept each other as one of their own in the sweetest ways. No matter how different they are, no matter what breeds they belong to, dogs seem to be totally capable of showing their four-legged siblings the same love that they show to the humans in their lives.

And since the dog in this video has realized that she experiences the world very differently from her brother, she found a way to take care of him in a way that something tells me only another dog would be able to do.

On Monday, September 2, @leviandmaisy shared this precious video of their Golden Retriever , Maisy, following her usual routine that happens when their humans get home: she runs to wake up her deaf brother, Levi, who is an Australian Shepherd , to let her know that everyone is home.

Levi is snoozing so peacefully until Maisy jumps on the couch next to him, gently waking him up from his nap so that they can both go greet their parents. They're so happy!

"I hope she never stops doing this for him," said the caption.

According to what they shared in the caption, wake ups between Maisy and Levi didn't always go this smoothly! "The first time we ever caught her doing this on camera was so cute but definitely spooked him!" they wrote. "If we’re trying to wake him ourselves we start putting our hands in front of nose to try to help."

It sounds like Levi is so loved by his brother and his people.

Can Dogs Tell When Another Dog Has a Disability?

While Maisy may not fully understand why Levi is different from her and needs to be woken up this way, she (and dogs in general) are pretty good at sensing when another dog may be facing deafness, blindness, or a similar difference.

According to The Dodo, dogs will be able to tell that a dog is unable to hear or see after interacting with them — they may not be able to realize what they are unable to do, but they will know something is different.

Meanwhile, dogs who are deaf or blind will quickly learn how to rely on their other senses instead.

"Dogs in general are pretty adaptable and it's pretty amazing what they can do," veterinarian Dr. Gwen Sila told the outlet. "Their sense of hearing is incredible, and their sense of smell is much better than ours. So they start to rely on these other senses to navigate."

And in Levi's case, they may also have their dog BFFs and siblings to rely on, too... which can be pretty sweet to watch.
