Golden Retriever Steps Into Action After Another Dog Tries to 'Steal His Girl'

Bro code is something everyone learns very early on. It's not cool to steal your friends' partners. It's not cool to date their exes. It's not cool to steal from their houses. If you break the code, your friendship may be subject to termination without any further notice.

On Wednesday, September 4th, one Golden Retriever learned the hard way that bro code is easily broken, and all respect is lost. Unfortunately, after he finds his bestie trying to steal his girl, he's forced to confront them both:

Lenwich the Golden won't be single for long. He's so handsome, I'm sure other girl dogs will be chomping at the bit. Mine is single, just FYI!

Lenwich is a San Diego based boy, and he's an office dog. Wherever his mom works, they allow more than one office dog, because there are at least three in this saga: Lenny, Chance (another Golden Retriever), and Lola, his girlfriend. Recently, Lenny has been out of office while recovering from getting neutered, and it doesn't seem like Lola missed him to much. Or, maybe she missed him so much that she had no choice but to distract herself...

She was caught playing with Chance while he was gone, and when he came back, she tried to act like nothing happened, but that won't fly. His mom caught it on video! One epic confrontation later, Lenny and Lola are no more. I hope that won't make things awkward at the office Christmas party...

Can Dogs Really Fall in Love?

Lenny is feeling particularly disheartened by Lola's betrayal, and his mom's use of the world "girlfriend" makes it sound like he was in love with her. As far as we know, though, there are very few animals who mate for life.

Scientists have studied dogs and their relationships with each other, and they found that dogs who have nice interactions with each other show elevated levels of oxytocin - the stuff that makes you feel like you're in love. The hormone is also present when they interact positively with humans and other animals.

While dogs can love each other (and will often love the dogs in their close circles), they're not monogamous. Technically speaking, a female dog might take a different mate every time she goes into heat - it's just a matter of who's around. As far as Lola is concerned, there were no wrongs done here, but since I've appointed myself as Lenny's lawyer in the divorce, I must disagree. Who could betray that sweet little face?!
