Labrador Retriever Puppy Goes Into Total Protector Mode While Sister Gets a Nail Trim

Many dogs are natural protectors when it comes to the people they love. They don't necessarily have to belong to a breed known for being good guard dogs, either; many will immediately go into security mode when they realize that there's a potential threat to their humans (you know, like a mail truck or a little kid selling Girl Scout cookies at the front door). But it's not just their favorite people they like to keep safe; plenty of dogs out there are willing to defend the other pets in their household, too.

And not all of them have to be bigger and stronger than the pet they're protecting to feel that instinct, either, as we can see in the TikTok video below. This pup might still be a baby, but there's no way she's going to let her sister be plagued by the scariest threat of all: the nail trimmer.

Recently, @evaloushore shared the sweetest video of what happened when her Labrador Retriever puppy named Oakley saw her big sister (an adult Golden Retriever named Freya) getting her nails trimmed. To put it simply? She immediately went into protector mode.

Freya didn't look particularly disturbed by the trimmer, though she did look like she would rather be doing anything else at that moment — the way many dogs feel about manicure time. But that was enough to push Oakley into action.

First, she started trying to push the trimmer out of her human's hands, barking at it so everyone would be aware that something sinister was happening to her big sister. And when that didn't work, she tried something else: comforting Freya.

Sweet Oakley gave Freya plenty of kisses and even laid down with her head on top of Freya's head so she'd know her little sis was there for her. How cute are these two?!

Oakley & Freya's Bond

These dogs are lucky enough to live in a household full of fellow friends; their mom has adopted four dogs in total. But though they all seem to get along just fine, Oakley and Freya have had a special bond since the very beginning.

In this video from when Oakley was still just a baby, their mom explained that after they lost their older dog, Freya was struggling, but after adopting Oakley, all of that changed. She suddenly had a new friend to play with, cuddle with, and, of course, protect her from the scary nail trimmer.

And now that Oakley is a big sister herself, she's got even more love to pass around. Look how quickly she bonded with her little sister, another Lab puppy. This dog is really something special.
