Gentle Golden Retriever Smiles with Joy While Meeting Tiny Baby Lamb

It's so sweet to witness any kind of animal friendship, but there's something really special about the unlikely ones that somehow happen anyway. I'm not just talking about dogs and cats who are BFFs, which is far more common than some people might think, but more about two animals who don't appear to have a lot in common. Unless you are lucky enough to live on a farm, there are plenty of animals out there that your dog will likely never cross paths with.

And if you didn't think that a dog and a lamb who started out as complete strangers could end up being pals, you should watch this TikTok video. I do believe what we have here is the start of a very beautiful friendship.

In this sweet video from @hey_its_franklin_ , we see a Golden Retriever dog named Franklin meeting a baby lamb for the very first time, and thanks to the pup's gentle nature (and the lamb's brave curiosity), it looks like they hit it off right away.

At first, there was a lot of sniffing and licking going on, but once they'd had the chance to check each other out, all bets were off — it was officially playtime. This sweet dog instinctively knew that he was stronger than the lamb, so he really held back some of that strength while they played, which is too cute to see.

My favorite part of the video is toward the end, when Franklin is just smiling at the camera as his new friend gives him kisses. I need these two to star in their own sitcom, please!

Do Dogs & Sheep Get Along?

While this dog (and many others) are great with sheep, that's not true of every dog out there, so before you attempt a play date like this one or enter a living environment where dogs and sheep will co-mingle, it's important to know a few things first.

Dogs who are skittish, are often anxious, or don't tend to like to meet new people (or other creatures) may not be cut out for a sheep BFF of their very own. But if you have a pup who belongs to a breed that's considered a Livestock Guardian Dog , you're in luck. As Wag! points out, dogs have an instinct to protect sheep and other farm animals for predators, so they'll already start off on the right foot.

Breeds who make good livestock guardians include Great Pyrenees , Bernese Mountain Dogs , Mastiffs, and more. And while Goldens like Franklin aren't considered livestock guardians, they can make for great companions to livestock, especially if they're trained to live with them.

I am going to need more footage of these new friends together. They are too cute!
