Many people choose to rent their home rather than purchase one. Whether they are downsizing, prefer not to handle their own lawn care, or simply enjoy the convenience that an apartment community provides, renting often makes more sense for them than buying.

So, what’s a potential renter to do when they come across a listing with the dreaded “No Pets Allowed” stipulation? Fortunately, a new type of living community has emerged, recognizing that many people are proud pet parents who want their fur babies to enjoy just as many perks as they do

Who runs the world? Pets. In 2024, they rule 66% of U.S. homes, with 97% of owners classifying them as a family member. For 90% of renters , pet-friendly digs aren't just a want—they are a must.

In a sea of "no pets allowed" and "breed restrictions apply," residential real estate brand AVE is redefining pet-friendly living in the luxury rental market.

Here are some highlights that make AVE a true pet paradise

    • Room to Roam: AVE communities offer complimentary private "Unleashed Dog Parks" for residents, featuring walking paths, a gazebo with benches, charging stations, a large screen TV, a dual water fountain, a tunnel house, and a refrigerator. The park has dedicated areas for small and large breed dogs, both equipped with bridges and jump hurdles, plus toys of all sizes.
    • Pampered Pets: AVE communities offer onsite pet spas. The “Hall of Fur” art installation at AVE’s Tampa location was created by a local photographer who captured images of the groomed furry residents, showcasing their beauty in a mural outside the pet spa.
    • Unique Events: Monthly "Yappy Hours" featuring puppuccinos, "Snoot Art" sessions where pets create their own masterpieces, and costume contests like the "PAWsome Showdown." Check out the Snoot Art event hosted at AVE Phoenix linked here .
    • Convenience Services: Recommended, vetted dog walkers/sitters through the RXO Home Lifestyle App and dog waste stations throughout communities.
    • Community Engagement: Partnerships with local rescues for adoption events and plans for "Puppy Yoga" sessions.
      • AVE Tampa partnered with the Humane Society of Tampa Bay to host an adoption event where they waived pet fees, leading to the successful adoption of three animals—a dog and two cats. One of the adopted pets has since become the star of Instagram account @pennyisabully .
      • AVE Clinton partnered with local animal shelter @brick_city_rescue to collect pet supplies to support local animals in need.
      • No Restrictions: AVE has no size, weight, or breed restrictions for pets. Big or small, AVE welcomes all types of pets.

Sure, not every place is like AVE so if you are considering renting your own place, but want your pet to feel comfortable as well, here are some things to look for.

How To Find a Pet Friendly Rental

One of the first things you can do is ask your friends and family members, or on social media, if anyone knows of any communities in your own town that are pet-friendly.

Arrange a tour of your potential community. Some things to look out for are green spaces, community dog parks, or nearby access to a park so your pup can get outdoor time.

Does your potential community have a dog washing station available? What about meet-ups with other apartment dwelling dog owners?

Not every place can be as cool as AVE, but maybe in the future more communities will realize that we love our pets and we want them to love where they live too.
