Labrador's Drool-Fest While Mom Cleans Out Food Container Is Totally On-Brand

Not all dogs are motivated by food or not, but plenty of them are very interested in eating, whether we're talking about a special meal, a treat, or the kibble they eat on a daily basis. Anytime my dog hears the sound of something hitting metal, she is down the stairs like a flash to check if it's food being poured in her bowl โ€” and that's true if she ate two hours ago or if she knows it's time for her next meal any minute. How can I really blame her for that when I get them same way around dinner time?

But the situation unfolding in this TikTok video? Yeah, this is next level. This poor dog is watching his mama clean out his food bowl, and you can just tell he's using every bit of his willpower to keep himself from jumping up on that counter!

On TikTok, @oakley.and.chipper shared this video of how her Labrador pup reacted as he saw all of his food out, poured into bowls on the kitchen counter, while she got the container clean. You could tell he didn't 100% understand what was going on, but he definitely knew he was not supposed to eat all that food.

Instead, not only did he stare longingly at it (and at his mom, who he was silently begging for a snack), but he also had an epic drool over it, too. Straight up hanging out of his mouth โ€” won't someone please feed this dog?!

Commenters were getting a good chuckle out of this, along with some who recommended that she wait until he's not around to clean the container next time!

"Itโ€™s the ASPCA commercial dog eyes for me," one person wrote.

Another comment said, "There couldโ€™ve been one piece of food on the counter and he wouldโ€™ve been drooling just as hard," which is too true!

Best Way to Store Dry Dog Food

The comments also included a debate from people who said that it's better for the food's freshness if it stays in its original bag, rather than being poured into a container. Is that true or false?

According to what veterinarian Dr. Katy Nelson told Chewy, food will stay the freshest if it's stored in an airtight container (her preference is stainless steel) but still inside its original packaging. The container needs to be kept in a cool, dry place, and it needs to be cleaned regularly.

โ€œAlways wash out the container between refills," Dr. Nelson said. "The oils from the kibble tend to make the container greasy, and you can then end up having rancid oil from the old bag contaminating the fresh food.โ€

Dry food should be used until about one month after opening, and then it's time to buy new kibble.

Just don't make your dog a buffet they can't eat on the kitchen counter, or they're going to give you that same sad, drooly look we saw from that guy in the video...
