Frenchie Puppy Who Sits on Command to the Wackiest Words Has Everyone Giggling

Too often, we as a society blindly follow things we believe to be norms. There are a lot of examples of this, but a prime one is the way we train our dogs. We all use the same words: if you go up to just about any dog and ask them to sit, they'll do it.

But why is that? Why are we all using the same words to teach our dogs commands when, realistically, we could teach our dogs any words we wanted? On September 5th, one Frenchie mom showed us all that we legitimately don't have to do use sit! With a certain tone, a dog will sit to just about any word:

Kirby the Frenchton is a very sweet boy. At least he knows how to sit!

Kirby is just a baby, having been born late last year. He's actually a Frenchton: a French Bulldog/Boston Terrier cross. Historically, they're some of the most stubborn pups to train, too; they're just very hard-headed. Since coming home to his forever family, though, Kirby has done a great job learning and growing!

There are two things that Kirby has not grown out of, though, and they're things that make him go viral: one, he always has his tongue sticking at least partially out of his mouth, and he will sit to any word as long as you say it correctly. She's played this game with him on many occasions, but these words and some of the public's favorite. Mine is, "chips and salsa!" I regret using plain old "sit" with my puppy!

What Tone Is Best For Training a Puppy?

If this video proves anything, it's that it's not necessarily what you say, but rather how you say it. When you're giving a puppy a command, you have to find a way to differentiate it from the rest of the words they hear or they won't absorb it.

While you don't want to sound too stern, you also don't want to be high-pitched and excited. Any tone that's too strong will distract them from the task. When you're giving them a command, make sure you're looking directly at them, and try saying it just like Kirby's mom does: slightly dragging it out so they have more time to hear, comprehend, and respond.

When they follow through with your command, you should praise them very gently, not too excitedly, as that can distract them from the rest of the training session. Once it's over, though, you can have them do one final trick and then get as excited for them as you can muster!
