Some dogs are always hungry, regardless of how much they eat. Even when well-fed, they constantly look for opportunities to get more, which unfortunately leads to them stealing their sibling’s food.

This can be difficult in a household with cats that like to graze throughout the day. If this problem sounds familiar, you might also want to consider employing a house chicken to deter your pups. As you’ll see in this video shared on August 27, this bird knows how to handle her business.

Talk about a boss lady! Black Betty isn’t messing around when protecting her cats and the food. Watching her intimidate a 65-pound dog trying his hardest to steal a bite is fascinating, and she does it with enthusiasm. However, this determined pooch refuses to give up and doesn’t retreat immediately. Finally, after making several attempts, Kentucky Wonder relents and allows her and her feline pals to go back to eating their meals in peace. Her mom (@ thegoodplacefarm ) explains that this feisty bird isn’t your average variety but an Ayam Cemani chicken. She tells us they are the most expensive in the world, with some costing as much as $2500. While that wasn’t her price tag, Black Betty seems to understand she comes from royalty and wants to be fed accordingly. And she considers cat chow top-notch.

Why Are Ayam Cemani Chicken So Expensive?

These all-black Ayam Cemani chickens are unique not only because of their black feathers but also because the dark pigment in these birds turns their beaks, bones, and flesh black. According to Smore Science, their unique coloring comes from a genetic mutation leading to a condition known as fibromatosis. The altered gene in these jet-black birds is called Endothelin 3, and it’s so rare that scientists believe all black chickens, including other breeds, descended from a single bird with the mutation. Originating in Indonesia, locals believe they possess the ability to ward off evil spirits and bring good fortune. It seems these cats might agree.

People were intrigued by this unusual interaction. Viewer @kittykough inquired, “Is it just me, or does the dog look like it’s actually having fun?” It could have been a game for them both. Several people also pointed out the dead roach on the floor, which Black Betty’s mom explains was a gift from outside by the cats. How sweet and icky! No wonder this house chicken defends her friend’s food so fiercely.

If this bird is by their side, these felines don’t have to worry about sharing a meal with Kentucky Wonder. While it may be unconventional, it’s a clever way to ensure everyone eats their own meals.
