Great Pyrenees Teaches Husky BFF Sharing Is Caring—Unless It’s Dad

Unfortunately, both in childhood and in real life, you're going to have to share. It doesn't matter if you don't like the person you're sharing with, it is expected that you can be civil with someone else. Does it always work? Of course not, but it's fun to try.

We try to enforce this same logic on our dogs, but it works even less. Their minds aren't built for sharing, but they really do try their best. Unless it's something like the scenario in this video from Monday, September 9th, then all bets are off:

All things considered, I think Ritchie the Pyr is a pretty good brother. My dogs definitely wouldn't share bacon, with each other or with me.

Beside the fact that the hair in this house must be everywhere all of the time, Ritchie and Bear are very good boys. They get along well, and they don't mind sharing just about anything, whether it's food or toys. One thing that crosses the line, though, is when Bear tries to get in on his brother's snuggle time with their dad!

Interestingly, their mom is fair game: they can snuggle her together without any issues, but Ritchie wants dad all to himself. In the video, he straight-up knocks Bear right off, and it's not the first time he's done it. Ritchie also might refuse to share his favorite beef sticks, which he frequently goes on gas station trips for, but he'd sooner share that than his dad!

Why Do Dogs Get Jealous of One Person?

Other than being a serious blow to mom's ego, the fact that dad seems to be a point of contention for the boys might be alarming. While Ritchie doesn't seem to have full-blown meltdowns about it, things could escalate quickly should Bear decide to push it.

If a dog is getting jealous around one person, it's because that person is their favorite, plain and simple. They want as much of that person's attention as they can get, and someone else in the way is a direct hinderance. They just don't like it, like how human babies don't like to share their favorite parent!

When you notice this happening, though, it's important that you correct the behavior. A prime example of that would be when Ritchie pushes Bear away: they should (and, most of the time, do) not acknowledge the behavior, and instead praise Bear for putting up with it. Eventually, the pup learns that this kind of behavior doesn't get them anywhere!
