Great Dane Teaching Tiny Black Kitten to 'Be Big' Is the Sweetest Teacher

We have a lot to learn from our siblings, even if they're significantly bigger than us. Whether that means they're physically larger or older and wiser, they have a lot to teach us. Most often, one of the best lessons we learn from our big siblings is all about self-confidence.

On September 8th, a mom managed to capture this exact lesson between her Great Dane and the foster kitten they took in. The kitten is learning how to be just as intimidating as her older sister, even though it's definitely a little harder for her:

Lisa Gerken has said she won't be keeping this sweet kitten forever, so it's important that she gets these lessons in now. She'll need them in her new home!

Lisa took this kitten in just recently, along with another: she found them dumped, orphaned. Without her, they almost certainly would've died on their own, but she did have a problem: her Great Dane, Winnie, has a little bit of a reactivity problem. She wasn't sure how she'd react to the kittens at all!

However, almost immediately, Winnie warmed right up, and their mom says that Winnie is the one who really adopted the kittens. They spend all of their time together, snuggling or playing or trying their best to be as big as the dog who's caring for them. As you can see in the video, this kitty gets pretty close!

In other videos, their mom has said that these two are just fosters, but that she adores what having them there has done for Winnie as a whole. From now on, she says, they'll be fostering kittens whenever they can.

Should You Foster Kittens If You Have Dogs?

When considering fostering animals, a lot of people resolve just to foster within their preferred species, whatever that may be. A brave few cross over and have both, but it's not as common as you'd think.

Fostering kittens if you have a dog who could handle it is actually a really good idea. When they're young like this is when they're most open to trying new things: introducing and cohabitating a kitten and a dog often goes better than with a full-grown cat. The dog won't view the kitten to be as much of a threat. Even if you do choose to foster kittens with dogs, you need to wait to introduce them until the kittens are at least 6 weeks old, just out of caution.

Additionally, when they're ready for adoption, foster kittens who have experience living with dogs or other animals are desirable to a whole new market. The more people who may want your kittens, the faster they'll find a forever home!
