If you bring a Retriever just about anywhere, they're going to find something to bring to you. It's usually nothing bad; a stick, a rock, your shoe... whatever they can carry at the moment!

When he took a Golden Retriever and a Labrador Retriever to the lake on Monday, September 9th, the dog dad in this video was definitely expecting to receive a stick or two. However, that wasn't all he got; they teamed up to bring him the biggest stick they could find. It was a little wild:

Unfortunately, Gary Leiteritz definitely did not permit these retrieving fiends to bring this big stick home with them. It wouldn't have even fit in the car!

This family has had lots of dogs over the years, and they all support their outdoorsy lifestyle; this family likes to hunt, fish, and swim - all things that require a very specific type of companion. They've had Golden Retrievers, Labrador Retrievers, and even German Shorthaired Pointers!

It's no surprise that they've taught their latest pair to retrieve, but what is surprising is that they managed to come up with this. That level of teamwork is something that people who work Retrievers dream of: they're perfectly in sync! As people pointed out in the comments, the Golden Retriever is kind of taking the lead here (Branch Manager), while the Chocolate Lab (the Assistant Branch Manager) is kind of following along. Listen, whatever gets the team to work is what's best!

Which Retriever Is Right For You?

When you're getting a retriever breed, it can be easy to think they're all the same and just pick based on vibes, but that's not advisable. All dog breeds vary vastly, and it's not just their working abilities you have to consider: they're still your pets!

There are a few common breeds for retrieval work:

    1. Golden Retrievers, which are great for hunters who don't mind a little extra coat maintenance. Golden Retrievers are also great with kids (and gorgeous!).
    2. Labrador Retrievers, who have shorter double coats and are slightly bigger than Goldens. Labs are famously mild-mannered and often get along great with cats, other dogs, and kids.
    3. Poodles, which are way less popular, but just as effective. Poodles may require a little more patience, so they're best for experienced trainers.

You could stick to one breed or do what this family has done: mix them! No matter what kind of retriever you choose to bring home, you'll love them just the same. In addition to being great workers, they're also just great dogs. I mean, look at how kind they are, bringing their dad that big stick!
