Boxer Tells Mom 'No Thank You' After Being Offered Pickles Like a True Gentleman

My dog, whose name is BB-8 (yes we are Star Wars fans), is a Boxer mix, and she's also the love of my life, so I can talk all day about how wonderful dogs who belong to this breed are. Not only is she a total sweetheart who would follow me to the ends of the earth, but she totally tolerates my 4-year-old dressing her up in super hero capes and sunglasses. But my favorite thing about her might just be her big personality. She communicates so much without speaking a word of human language!

It seems like that trait might be universal for Boxers after watching this TikTok video. This pup can't say "no thank you" out loud, but he sure managed to use his manners anyway!

In this video that @i.am.meagan shared on Thursday, September 12, she's in the car with her Boxer pup , whose name is Tyson, and tries to share her pickle with him from whatever she's eating at the time. A kind gesture that many dogs would be glad to accept — who's out here turning down people food?

At first he just tried to ignore her, but when she kept trying to get his attention, he politely sniffed the pickle before using his paw to push her hand away ever so gently. This is a gentleman if I've ever seen one!

However, he did throw a little side eye her way for even asking him — shouldn't she know he doesn't like pickles by now?

I've always thought that dogs are more like people than they try to let on, but there are moments like this where they really let it shine through.

    Are Pickles Safe for Dogs?

In the end, it's actually not a bad thing that Tyson turned down the pickle, because according to what veterinarian Dr. Carly Fox told the American Kennel Club (AKC), they're actually not great for dogs.

Since pickles are made in a salt-water brine, that means that they have a high sodium content, which is generally something you should avoid for dogs. Many pickles also include spices and ingredients that aren't safe for dogs to consume, like onions and garlic.

The good news: It's totally safe to offer your dog cucumbers instead, so there's at least one crunchy snack you can enjoy together.

A slice of pickle like the one Tyson's mom was offering isn't going to hurt your pup if they snack on it from time to time, but it would probably be a bad idea to give your dog a whole pickle to eat. It's a balance!
