Farms only work when everything is cohesive. Without a solid herd who really love each other, there is a lot of risk involved, and that is something farmers just can't risk. Farms are often businesses, after all!

Luckily for one farm, there seems to be a magic weapon when it comes to bringing everyone together: a sweet, fluffy Bernese Mountain Dog. As long as everyone gets a kiss from him, it seems like everything is okay:

The Highlands of the Heartland are so happy here, and it's all thanks to this sweet pup! Everyone wants a kiss from her!

The dog in this video is named Willow, and she's been a part of this Midwestern farm for a long time. She's a big hit with all of the animals: she's a great playmate, an excellent snuggle buddy, and the best kisser in town. It doesn't get better than that!

Willow spends a lot of her time outside with the rest of her herd, though she does go inside when it's bedtime. No slumber parties for her and the rest of her pals, though there are undoubtedly lots of goodnight kisses. She gets along well with all the Highland cows on this farm, not just the babies!

Bernese Mountain Dogs Make Excellent Farmhands

Bernese Mountain Dogs are perfect for farm work, and not just because of their wonderful kisses. Historians claim that the breed began at least 2,000 years ago , a big Mastiff-type breed that could serve several purposes.

In addition to their wonderful kisses, a Bernese Mountain Dog can:

    1. Help herd cattle
    2. Pull carts and wagons
    3. Protect against predators

Bigger farms typically have separate dogs for both herding and protection, but on a tiny backyard hobby farm, it doesn't always make the most sense to do that. Instead, many hobby farmers will choose a breed like the Bernese: a pup of all trades, kind, and absolutely gorgeous. Other breeds like Saint Bernards and even Newfoundlands can serve the same purposes!

If you do choose to have a dog of any kind of your farm, you should exercise a little bit of caution, even if the animals really hit it off well. Farm animals can sometimes carry parasites and diseases that your dog could pick up, and vice versa. As a good rule of thumb, try never to let your dog lick your farm animals... though, obviously, you sometimes can't help it. No one will stop Willow's kisses!
