Pesto the Penguin is taking the world by storm, and for good reason. He looks like a walking stuffed animal, like a character plucked from a children's book with those cute tactile pages.

Apparently, his newfound fame is getting to his head! On September 11th, people a caught him mid-squabble with his elders. He may be famous, but that doesn't mean he gets to be disrespectful:

I wish I could've been @lizlikeslattes in this video. I want to see Pesto so bad!

Pesto the Penguin is the newest media darling: everyone adores him. Recently, his keepers hosted a "gender reveal" party after much squabbling on the internet. Most people were team girl, but it was revealed that this massive baby is, in fact, a boy.

Even though he's a star, he's still a penguin. He's young, which means he wants to show off to the rest of the colony. He has not yet learned to be respectful, so he steps on flippers and squabbles with his elders. Eventually, someone will put him in his place. For now, though, he's the youngest, largest, and most famous penguin on the block!

Why Is Pesto the Penguin So Special?

Pesto the Penguin is a King Penguin who was born at the end of January. He was apparently a decently normal size when he first hatched, and he spent the first 3 months of his life behind the scenes at the SEA LIFE Melbourne Aquarium before he was ready to move up to the real exhibit. Once he was, he just took off.

People noticed almost immediately that Pesto is brown and fluffy, which is typical of a baby King Penguin, but he's also just huge: at only 9 months old, he's almost 50 pounds. He's officially the largest chick SEA LIFE Melbourne has ever seen!

King Penguins are typically on the larger side when they're full-grown, about 3 feel tall and 45 pounds. However, even though he's still a chick, Pesto has reached 46 pounds and eats 25 fish per day according to his keepers. He is a male, which would account for a small difference in growth development, but even the other male penguins in his flock can hardly compare.

Pesto still has quite a while to keep growing: King Penguins reach their full size and start going off on their own at about 18 months. Pesto is apparently showing no signs of slowing down, so he may get even bigger. He'll need his own enclosure! No one else will fit!
