If you’ve ever consumed an entire bag of chips or cookies after a tough day, you’ll understand exactly where this Bernese Mountain Dog is coming from. He wasn’t satisfied with having just one and wasn’t willing to compromise on the amount. Instead, he used a hilarious tactic to evade his mom and keep his prize.

It’s a terrific example of a smart dog using his problem-solving skills. Watch how he made his escape in this video shared on September 13th.

When all else fails, you might as well be a bulldozer in reverse, especially when you have the charm and size of a Bernese Mountain Dog on your side. There was no question Bernie (@ bigcitybernie ) understood that his mom said he could have: “A treat, not the whole bag of treats.” But that wasn’t what he wanted to hear, so with the bag tucked in his mouth, he nonchalantly made his way down the hall, carefully trying to whisk it away without suspicion. Even though Mom was waiting on the ground to capture his cagey heist, he didn’t let that stop him. Instead, after she told him she could “See him,” he turned around to avoid facing her and backed over her slowly. LOL! What a character! It’s hard not to give him points for being so clever, and his quick wit likely earned him a bonus snack. At least I know I would have caved over this cuteness.

How Smart Are Bernese Mountain Dogs?

The Bernese Mountain Dogs’ instinctive intelligence, which was developed through working on farms and herding livestock, is complemented by their outgoing and eager-to-please nature. These qualities make them easy to train, with many quickly learning new commands. According to Dogster, Berners also possess adaptive intelligence , learning from their environment and past experiences. This helps them communicate effectively, whether aiming to make us laugh, persuading us to stay home, or requesting to accompany us when we go out.

This silly boy entertained his fans. Viewer @parker.dachshund responded, “This is too funny. Also, I didn’t see him.” Nope, he was nearly invisible. Viewer @toulouse_koda_bentley responded, “Omg, he’s so funny! I love how he’s like if I turn around and climb over Mom, she won’t see me.” That appeared to be his thought process. Another person joked, “Lady, you must be drunk or something. You only think you can see me. I have engaged my superpower of invisibility.” Perhaps he understood being funny was almost as good as being invisible.

Even though Bernie may not have gotten away with his treats, he made a commendable effort. Thankfully, there’s always tomorrow to try for those tasty snacks again.
