A man went to adopt a Border Collie, but there was someone else there that he could not ignore, so he came home with an unexpected bonus.

On September 16, 2024, TikTok user vsmithie (@vsmithie) shared a video of the moment they brought their new puppy home and an added bonus that wasn't planned but worked out how it was supposed to. Take a look!

In this adorable video, a quick video shared on social media features a good dose of puppies.

"POV: Your [boyfriend's] green flag is that he said he was bringing home a puppy but couldn't leave her brother behind," the text on the screen reads as we see the happy and proud dog dad grab a Border Collie puppy from the car.

When dog dad comes out of the car, he's holding a really adorable black-and-white Border Collie puppy. His older dog is also around and excited to see their new sibling.

The dog dad gives the camera a good look at the sweet puppy before placing the little one on the floor and returning to his car.

The intention was to bring the one fluffy puppy home, but there was a surprise this time. The surprise in the car was a second Border Collie puppy! The second dog was equally as cute as the first, which makes sense because they're siblings.

The video then switches to a clip of the two puppies happily running through the grass together, being really cute as puppies are, and play fighting in the kitchen with a toy.

"After I lost my soul dog six months ago, we've been hoping to add another dog to the family," the video's text reads. Now they'll grow up together."

The video's caption reads "puppies > flowers," while the song "Birds of a Feather" by Billie Eilish plays over the clip.

In the comments, people shared how this video made them swoon and want a puppy—or two—of their own.

One wrote, "Always get two. They keep each other entertained, and they cuddle up together to sleep."

Another shared, "Love this! We have always rescued littermates. Then we are not their only source of entertainment."

Someone else added, "I want my husband to be like that!"

One TikTok user said, "Omg hiding under the car!!!! I love them so much."

And another, "We are a Border Collie family- FANTASTIC pups! High energy but sweet, smart, and loyal!"

    What Is 'Littermate Syndrome'?

In the comments, many people asked the new pet parents to look up "littermate syndrome" since they had adopted two dogs from the same litter. But what does that mean? And is it a real thing?

Littermate syndrome is more a collection of behaviors that can develop when two or more littermates are adopted together, Texas A&M Today explains.

The abridged explanation is that it's a collection of behaviors that may cause the puppies to develop a close bond with each other, hindering their ability to bond with their new human parent.

According to a veterinary technician who spoke with Texas A&M Today, dogs who develop Littermate Syndrome act like they're in their own world, which can cause a loop of "unhealthy behaviors."

For example, the publication explains this might manifest as extreme separation anxiety when the two dogs are apart, a fear of new experiences or people, and one of the puppies tends to be more dominant than the other. When that happens, there can be a power dynamic between the two dogs, leading to one being timid and withdrawn and the other showing aggression or nervousness.
