For those in a nursing home, the days can often feel long and empty. With many families living far away, regular visits are not always possible. So, having a four-legged friend stop by can make an ordinary day exciting.

This is especially true when your visitor is a charming French Bulldog who’s equally happy to see you. Just seeing how he lifts everyone’s spirits will make you smile.

Watch how he brightens the room in this video from September 8:

This is so lovely to see! Meatball (@ meatballraviolivalvo ) can’t wait to go inside and visit with all his besties! He wastes no time saying hello to the first friend he encounters and quickly zips across the room to get belly scratches from his next pal. The residents are equally thrilled to see his adorable French Bulldog ’s face and eagerly give him their undivided attention. This precious pup even says hello to the resident bird, Cheerio, as he makes his rounds. Thankfully, Meatball’s mom understands the immeasurable value his positive energy and excitement bring to these seniors and selflessly volunteers her time so that he can improve their day.

What Training Do Dogs Need to Visit Nursing Homes?

Dogs of any breed and size can become therapy dogs , provided they have the proper training and temperament for the job. Like Meatball, having a friendly, outgoing personality with the willingness to meet new people is essential, as is a basic understanding of commands like sit, stay , and come. Many facilities require dogs to have completed a basic training program and passed the AKC Canine Good Citizen Test before visiting residents. This test evaluates a dog’s willingness to meet new people, follow commands, and remain calm during their visits, ensuring a pleasant experience for everyone.

People were touched by the joy this Frenchie brought his pals. Viewer @kath_a_ram responded, “Whole new meaning to making their day! (and mine)” It’s hard to feel anything but terrific after watching this. One person pointed out, “He loves them just as much as they love him.” There’s no doubt about that! Another person shared, “I clean for several elderly people in sheltered housing. On my day off, I take the dog and walk around to see everyone. I am blown away by the responses we get. Meatball is doing a fantastic job.” He is! Even if they only visit for a few minutes, animals can make such a difference in someone’s life.

Our animals always have a way of showing us what really matters. Even though we all have busy lives and plenty of responsibilities, finding a few minutes to do something nice for others is a gift that keeps giving.

Of course he does. My husband was in a physical therapy rehabilitation facility after a car accident. I was allowed to bring our dogs ( shots required) and other patients came to pet….it was delightful…and told many stories of their previous pets….the smiles and brightness was outstanding….
