    Is Kissing a Dog Dangerous?

How unhealthy is kissing your dog?

First of all, you should never go up to a strange dog on the street and kiss them because they could bite your face off. No, just kidding, but really, always ask before kissing a stranger's dog.

So if you let your dog lick your face or kiss you on your lips, like a lot of us dog parents do, you may be wondering how unhygienic or dangerous it is. Well, the bad news is, it's bad! Not very shocking considering most dogs spend a good part of the day licking their nether regions.

FetchPetCare explains, "Animal experts are in agreement on one scientifically proven fact: It is highly unsanitary for your dog to lick around your face , eyes, and nose! Dogs have been proven to carry various bacteria in their mouths that can be beneficial or non-effective to their overall health. Most of these bacteria however, are not meant to be absorbed by the human body through thin membranes such as our eyes, nose and mouth."

Now the good news is, it's just licking around these parts of your body that is risky. For most healthy people, a dog licking your skin is not dangerous. The germs are unlikely to cause issues if your immune system is strong and you don’t have any open wounds. So just keep your dog away from your mouth. Planting a kiss on their cute little head or letting them lick your hand or arm should be just fine.
