Golden Retriever's Rituals While Waiting for Dad To Come Home Will Move Anyone to Tears

Anyone would be hard pressed to find a welcoming committee that is as good at what they do as one single dog is. They offer their humans so much unconditional love that every time they walk back into that door at the end of the day, they're the happiest creature in the world to see them again. Having a dog means always being met with tail wags, a happy face, and plenty of cuddles when you arrive home every day, no matter how long you've been gone. Everyone should know what it feels like to be loved this much!

Even though all dogs are good at this skill, I'd have to say that the Golden Retriever in this TikTok video might just be one of the best. He has an entire ritual for when his dad gets home, and people are very emotional about it (me included).

On Thursday, September 19, @romeosrufflife shared this sweet video of what her Golden Retriever, Romeo, does every day when it's time for his dad to come home from work.

"Every day around 5 pm, our Golden Retriever starts looking for his dad to come home from work," they wrote in the video. "Even the quietest noise sends him rushing to the door."

Sure enough, there's Romeo, stationed by the front door with his toy in his mouth.

But when he realizes that noise isn't the sound of his dad coming home, Romeo retreats back to the couch... and then repeats the process with the next noise.

In the end, it's all worth it, though, because when his dad actually gets home, how excited Romeo gets is so worth it — and fortunately, his dad is happy to return that energy with excitement of his own.

Commenters were getting emotional over this hourlong process, with one person writing, "I’m torn between never wanting this man to leave the house again and him to continue to work to give this dog the life he deserves." Same!

Romeo joined his family in January as an eight week old puppy, and it seems like it was love at first sight for everyone involved. Then again, with a dog that cute, how could it not be?

And while it's very clear that his mother adores him, seeing the videos of Romeo with his dad makes it easy to understand why he looks forward to him coming home. They seem to have such a special bond. How many other dogs would allow themselves to be wrapped up and held like a human baby like this?
