Maine Coon Cat Falls in Love With New Kitten Who Instantly Becomes Her 'Shadow'

It's every pet parent's dream that when you introduce your new kitten to the cat of the house, everything will go smoothly and perfectly — love at first sight and all that. Unfortunately, it's not guaranteed that this will happen, especially if your existing cat hasn't spent much time around kittens. In my house, the love between my adult cat and the new kitten we have at home wasn't instant, but after a little bit of patience, they turned into playmates, and now, years later, I even catch them cuddling from time to time.

Anyone who has been through it themselves will tell you it's worth the wait, and luckily for the cat mom who shared this video about her Maine Coon's relationship with her new kitten, it didn't seem to be a very long wait at all.

Recently, cat mom @alisonakafudd shared this sweet video of her Maine Coon cat and black kitten getting along swimmingly after they didn't get along at first — something I know she's got to be relieved about!

In the video, she wrote, "when your girl cat who hated the new kitten realizes she now has a little shadow to play with and take care of."

And take care of her she is, because this video is just one long clip of this new big sister taking her duties very seriously and grooming her new baby brother as the black kitten looks at his mama with the biggest green eyes. He really does look just like a shadow!

Commenters couldn't get enough of these two, either, with one person writing, "you mean they're now in cat-hoots?" which is obviously a top tier pun.

More About This Adorable New Shadow

Kitten only recently joined the family over the summer, so it makes sense that this older kitty needed a bit of time to get used to him... and he has the most perfect name, too: Void. He really does look like a big fluffball with eyes!

Void seemed to love his new digs from the start, if the videos of him cuddling and napping with his mom are any indication. She has two older cats — the one from the video (whose name is Vesper) and an orange cat, and fortunately, the orange cat seemed to take to Void a bit better at first since it took Vesper a minute.

Now, Void seems to be setting in quite nicely. Not only have his naps with his mom continued, but he's found a new BFF/care taker in his big sister, Vesper, and looks quite happy about it.

Here's hoping everyone continues to get along!
