Rescue Puppy Mill Pekingese Who 'Trusts No One' Finds Her Forever Friend in Toddler Brother

It's so incredibly hard to hear about any situation where animals are being mistreated, especially when it comes to puppy mills. Thinking about a poor pup being bred as often as possible without any regard for their health or well being in the interest of someone's financial gain is nothing short of heartbreaking. Sure, the puppies who are produced by these dogs may go on to find loving families, but the mama dogs used for breeding are often forgotten and may not be able to find homes once they are no longer able to birth more puppies.

Knowing that they come from such difficult beginnings, it can be truly heartwarming to see how much they change when, against the odds, these mama dogs do find loving homes, and the sweet Pekingese in this video below is an example of that kind of happily ever after.

Dog mom Mackenzie Makatche shared her story in this video on Instagram all about the Pekingese pup named Clover she adopted who had spent her life as a puppy mill mama. There was no denying that she was off to live a better life... but she ended up finding her "person" in the most unexpected place!

As they wrote in the video, when this pup was first adopted, she was "untrained and unsocialized," suffering from a skin infection, was behind on routine health and dental procedures, and struggled to trust people (not that anyone could blame her). But then, her soulmate was born... in the form of her toddler brother, Harrison!

These two are clearly two peas in a pod — and adorable ones at that. Crawling around the house together, so many tail wags and giggles.... it's like they were always meant to find each other.

Not only does she finally have someone who truly seems to get her, but this little boy gets to grow up with the love of a dog who's been waiting to have someone to give it all to. She deserves this so much!

More About Harrison & Clover

Though Makatche's does have several four-legged family members, they're all Newfoundlands, except for Clover. She was originally adopted by Makatche's brother in 2022, but when he died, they took her in.

Though she did seem to assimilate to their family rather quickly, it wasn't until Harrison was born that Clover truly did find her calling!

In one post that Makatche shared earlier this year, she wrote that she never would have expected Clover and Harrison would be close, so their strong bond surprised her.

"She gets SO excited when he crawls around - chasing him, licking him, spinning excitedly in circles. She yaps if she can’t see him. She yaps if the door shuts and she hears story time start without her. She even jumps up onto the side of the tub to check on him during baths - and she does not like bath time," she wrote.

It sounds like these two were truly meant to be, and it's so good to see that they have each other.
