One of the biggest advantages of raising kids with animals of any kind is that it, more often than not, teaches them to be kinder people. They learn early on how to be gentle, and they learn more about the value of life - without the first-hand experience, these lessons can take years longer.

An added bonus, though, is the fact that your animal and your child can become the best of friends. If you raise them at the same time, you'll get to watch them grow up right alongside each other, and their love for each other. won't fade. If anything, like this video shows, it only gets better with time:

The Dakota Funny Farm seems like a wonderful place to be. This video makes me so happy (and a little jealous). How beautiful!

There are a lot of animals on this farm: they've got horses, cows, pigs, and some livestock guardian dogs to keep everybody safe. It's a fully functioning farm, too: they have actual farming equipment. It's the kind of undertaking most of us would never dream of attempting - let alone do while raising kids. Ali, the leader of this sweet herd, is superhuman!

There's one thing that stands out, though: Daisy. She's a black cow, and she's the herd's shining star, mostly because of her relationship with Ali's young son. When he was even littler than he is now and she was just a week-ld calf, he was bottle-feeding her, and she hasn't forgotten his kindness. Ali says that the two of them can be found together often!

    How Much Do Cows Remember?

It's clear that Daisy loves this little boy, and it's because he's always been kind to her. Whether she remembers him bottle feeding her or not, she knows she can feel safe with him, and he feels the same about her!

As it turns out, cows have excellent memories, especially when it comes to spacial awareness. They can remember where things are and where to go; if there's a spot on the farm where a cow got hurt, they may avoid it entirely for a long time afterward. Cows can also remember the faces, smells, and sounds of their caretakers.

By bringing her son around Daisy and associating him with food, Ali crafted a longterm bond between them, and that bond won't fade anytime soon. Eventually, if she ever has babies of her own, I hope he gets to bottle feed them, too!
