A Black Labrador refuses to join the lakeside party with everyone else because he's a true introvert and has better plans by himself.

On September 21, 2024, TikTok user Maine Matthew (@mainematthew) shared a video of a fun party where a cute Black Labrador named Barry wanted some alone time. Take a look!

At first, it's unclear what you're looking at in the clip, but a voiceover quickly explains exactly what you see .

"There is an entire party going on with food and people. Look at Barry," Matthew, who's holding the camera, says. " Barry is sitting in the water down here. Look at this."

And sure enough, what we're looking at becomes very clear. It's a lake or another big body of water. And there's a Black Labrador named Barry sitting in the water, with no waves, no movement, and no one else really around. So what's he doing?

"Waiting for somebody to throw the ball," his dad says before trying to convince him to get out of the water and join their lakeside party.

"Barry, that is incredible. There's like 40 people up here. There's like another 10 or 15 people over here."

Dad then jokes with the camera. "There's a tonne of food ... and then there's Barry. "There's a bonfire with people dropping food, and then there's Barry.

His dad continues trying to convince him to get out of the water, sharing that his brother, Bagel, is having fun up there and eating food people have dropped. But Barry doesn't want to budge.

In the comments, people shared hilarious messages for Barry and thoughts on his decision to stay in the water.

One wrote, "I'd be that person at the party that just hangs with Barry all night."

Another added, "Barry says it’s too peoply ."

Someone else wrote, "Ball is life. Barry is living his best life."

One shared, "Barry’s invitation was lost in the mail."

Another admitted, "He. Never. Threw. The. BALL! Poor Barry."

    Water Safety Tips for Dogs

Of course, it looks like people have their eyes on Barry, and he's OK in the water; it's still a good opportunity to brush up on some important water safety tips and reminders for dogs.

According to the Animal Humane Society , if your pup is going to be near water, you should have some best practices in place, whether you're at the pool or the lake like Barry.

"For boating, paddle-boarding, or other activities where your dog may fall into the water and have a long swim back to shore, dog life jackets are a great way to keep your pup safe," the experts share.

"Life jackets help keep your dog afloat, and many also come with loops on the back for you to pull your pet out of the water. Look for a life jacket that secures at the chest and underneath the belly, and make sure it’s a snug fit. A life jacket that’s too loose may come off your dog during an emergency."

If you want your dog to be near water, the best thing to do is start them small and "desensitize your dog to water," the Animal Humane Society explains.

From there, you should always keep an eye on your dog when it's in the water and never leave it unattended.

"Swimming, like many activities, is a skill that can weaken as your dog gets older. Even if your pup could once rival an Olympic athlete, they may need additional support, such as the help of a life jacket, to stay afloat as they age," the experts share.

"Always monitor your dog while they swim, and make adjustments to where and how long they swim based on their ability -- this is important no matter what age your pup is."
