I hope these two sweet babies found their forever homes shortly after this video was posted! If you are considering adding a black cat to your family, read on to see why October is actually a totally fine month to adopt one in.

Why It's a Myth That Shelters Don't Allow Black Cat Adoptions in October

You can probably blame the satanic panic that took place in the 1980's for this myth, but yes, many shelters do allow black cat adoptions in October, despite the myth that they don’t. Some shelters may have specific policies or precautions in place during this time, especially around Halloween, due to concerns about the safety and welfare of black cats, but it's not based on any actual evidence that black cats are in danger around spooky sea

According to nationally-recognized animal non-profit Best Friends , “there is no evidence that adopting black cats around Halloween poses any greater risk to the pets than adopting them at any other time of the year.” The organization also noted that Halloween and cult experts found “no confirmed statistics, court cases, or studies to support the idea that serious satanic cult crime even exists.”

Shelters are extremely overcrowded, and any time you can welcome a cat into your home is the best time, regardless of what color the cat is and what season it is.

Black cats and kittens can have a somewhat more difficult time getting adopted, and according to KindnessforCats, " black cats have the lowest adoption rate and the highest euthanasia rate? Why? We're not quite sure. Maybe it's the superstition factor. Some people say they can't see or make a connection with a black cat in a poorly lit kennel. And for folks browsing the internet for pets, black cats don't always show up in photographs as well as their lighter colored brethren. For whatever reason, black cats are statistically less likely to be adopted than more brightly colored felines."

Black cats and kittens deserve as wonderful a home as any other color of cat, and if it's October when you decide to welcome a new fur baby into your home, go for it. Plus, they look awful cute posing next to orange pumpkins.
