Creative Maine Coon Cat Builds 'Sink Sculpture' and Insists on Admiration

Sometimes, it really can be strange to see the items that our cats really latch onto. Sure, as a cat parent, many people will shell out cash for all kinds of cool cat toys, but in my own experience, I've found that there is no toy on the market that any cat loves as much as they love random trash. An empty plastic water bottle that makes fun noises when they step on it, an empty roll of paper towels they can roll around the kitchen... and of course, there is absolutely no substitute for a discarded cardboard box.

It's not just trash, though; there are several household items that plenty of cats love to entertain themselves with. The ones in this video that a Maine Coon has taken a liking to, though? This might be a first for me...

On Sunday, September 23, @lumiandhinoki.mainecoons shared this video of their gray Maine Coon cat playing in the kitchen sink with a few pieces of silverware, or as her mom calls it, her art.

Carefully, the kitty arranges the silverware in the sink around the drain just so, not looking up until she was satisfied with her work.

"I thought I was getting a cat, but it turns out I got an abstract artist whose favorite medium is silverware and who yells when her work is complete until someone comes to appreciate it," they wrote.

Well, it's hard to blame her for that — she did work very hard on her art, so of course everyone should immediately gather and tell her how beautiful it is.

I can only hope that this kitty's mom (or manager) shares more of her art ASAP. The world needs to see it!

Why Do Cats Like Playing With Random Household Items?

In most cases, there is no deeper meaning when it comes to cats who enjoy playing with random objects around the house — usually, it's just because they're bored and they found something that's interesting in!

Maybe the object makes a fun noise, reflects the light in an interesting way, or simply caught their eye when they were making their rounds.

However, what you should pay attention to is if your cat starts eating those random objects they're playing with, because that can be a sign that something isn't right. In that case, a visit to the vet is usually in order, and it's also possible to train your cat away from these behaviors.

And of course, a great way to prevent a cat messing with your stuff is giving them plenty of their own stuff to keep them entertained — like scratching posts and toys — and to make sure anything valuable is always where they can't get it.
