Maine Coon Kittens' 'Dangle Test' Is Something All Cat Parents Might Want to Try

There's a clear difference between cats and dogs that not a lot of people talk about: in most cases, cats are exponentially danglier than dogs are. While a dog will curl up and probably try to lick your face, there's a solid chance your cat will just... dangle.

Recently, one Maine Coon cat mom took to TikTok to show off just how dangly her kittens are. It seems to speak volumes to their temperament, it shows off their impressive size, and it's something everyone is thinking about trying now:

It's official: if you get a cat from Wild Mane Maine Coons, they come dangle-tested and ready to go. Is that important? Who cares? It's so fun!

Wild Mane Maine Coons does everything for their kittens that you'd expect from a good cattery. The kittens have a ton of space to run and play; they're raised as part of the family until it's time for them to go to their forever homes. They spend most of their time playing, since Maine Coon cats are incredibly rambunctious.

They're also incredibly dangly: like some other cat breeds, Maine Coon cats often don't mind being picked up, held in different positions, and flopped around. For example, Taylor Swift's Ragdoll cat who she wore like a scarf in her TIME Person of the Year photoshoot!

    Are Dangly Cats Better Pets?

It might just seem like a silly thing, and it is definitely a little silly, but "dangle testing" can actually be helpful in some cases. Dangling the cat requires them to give complete control over to us, and many say that cats who let you dangle them without issue are the best ones to have, especially if you have kids.

If your cat is a dangly one, it definitely does mean they're more easygoing than others. They don't mind being picked up, which is great for situations where you can't avoid doing it. However, whether or not your cat will let you pick them up and dangle them in midair should not be a dealbreaker.

Holding them like this makes cats feel vulnerable, and much of a cat's life is spent trying to feel less vulnerable. Instinctually, most cats won't necessarily enjoy this, even if they tolerate it. While a once-in-a-while test of their dangling ability is fine, you shouldn't make it a daily thing: it may result in an adverse reaction to being picked up at all!

I tried this with our kitty. He passed the dangle test. But he’s still the most rambunctious kitten I’ve ever seen. He deliberately goes liquid when I pick him up as a ploy to escape.
