Some dogs never have the pleasure of playing in their very own backyard. When the chance presents itself, however, their reaction is pure bliss. This is exactly what happened when German Shepherd Zeus and sister Luna were surprised with the greatest gift of all—their own yard—and their reaction is priceless!

Thankfully, @zeusandlunagsd shared the heartwarming video on TikTok for all to enjoy and it's one for the books. Watch as the two discover what freedom truly feels like as they romp and run in their new yard for the first time!

"No one prepares you for the moment your apartment dogs get their very own big back yard," the video says. "They had the sweetest reaction."

In the minute-long video, Zeus is introduced to his new yard, which is so big, he can't help but test it out with a few laps around the perimeter. His joy is evident as he finds new spots to smell and exciting ways to skip throughout the yard's entirety. It's even more fun once Luna joins in and they run and romp together.

"My favorite memory," the caption reads, and it's clear why. Everything about this clip is chicken soup for the soul, and knowing these pups can now feel this happy every day makes it even better. Some of the crew's 548k followers are here for all of it, grateful to witness such a scene as they wish them well.

"What a beautiful moment which will turn into making a lifetime of memories in the yard! Much love and happiness in their/your new home," one person wrote.

"A house with a little 'park' in the back!" another added.

"Awwww, here’s to many happy memories being made in your lovely new yard!" another said.

The Benefits of a Backyard for Dogs

Though nothing beats a good walk (and shouldn't), there are quite a few reasons a backyard can help with a dog's mental and physical health. Dogster notes yards not only fill their need to go outside , but can be beneficial when a walk isn't possible whether due to weather or behavioral issues.

Having the space to let them roam free can help prevent obesity because they can run or walk to their heart's content. For dogs who need a lot of exercise, it's a great place for a game of fetch or just chasing each other around the safe confines of your property where other people or pets won't get in the way.

The mental stimulation that comes from finding new scents in the hidden crevices of the yard, bird or squirrel watching, and having the opportunity to practice training techniques in your own space will help strengthen the bond you have with your dog.

Just being outside in the sunshine helps with immunity, mood, and sensorial enrichment—all things that make for a better, happier pup. So, even if you don't have a huge yard to offer like the one Zeus and Luna have, letting them have the run of whatever space you do have will have a positive impact on them and in turn, their joy will reflect onto you!
