There are certain characteristics that seem to be very uniquely dog traits and don't typically apply to cats. I'm talking super extroverted, happy-go-lucky personalities, having high energy levels, and enjoying a life being part of a pack. That just isn't what cats are best known for, and that's okay — they're more lone creatures, but that doesn't mean they aren't lovable pets who have plenty of amazing qualities of their own. But every now and then, you'll meet a cat who actually seems more like a dog, and one mom is making the case for an entire breed of cats being more like dogs.

The breed in question? Maine Coons. She's convinced that these kitties could easily pass as dogs if we didn't know any better, and if you watch the video below, you'll likely agree that she makes a pretty compelling argument.

Cat mom @maxiecoon took to Instagram Reels on Wednesday, September 25 to lay out the five reasons why she believes that Maine Coons could pass for dogs, and while their large size is an item on her list, there are plenty of others that actually make a lot of sense.

For example, their growls... an argument that comes with video evidence. While many cats do make growl-like sounds, they aren't quite like the noise that's coming out of this dog's mouth.

Speaking of sounds, her cats also bark — that's one you're going to need to listen to for yourself in the video to believe, but she's not lying!

And finally, she shared the way her cats come when she calls them. Anyone who has ever called to their cat — who definitely knows their own name — and maintained eye contact with them as they refused to respond knows that this can be an usual feline skill!

    Points were definitely made here...

The Cat Breeds Who Are Most Dog-Like

As it turns out, this cat mom isn't the first (or the only) person to compare Maine Coons to dogs; they've made it to several lists of most dog-like cat breeds all over the internet.

But they aren't the only one. There are many other cat breeds that will behave similar to dogs. According to Catster, that includes Ragdolls, Bengals, Siamese, and even Sphynx.

There are different reasons why these breeds are similar to dogs, but the overarching theme seems to be that these are cats known to be loyal, friendly, and intelligent, and do well in households with other pets and kids.

That said, all kitties have different personalities, so adopting from these breeds isn't a guarantee you'll have a cat that's more like a dog — but it does give you a pretty good chance.

They scare me. They're big enough to pull a cart, if they were so inclined. Also big enough to push you off YOUR bed in the middle of the night. 🛏️
