Pug 'Helps' His Brother Cram For a Test Like the Best Yet Worst Study Buddy

Dogs try their best to be helpful most of the time. For some dogs, it's easy: they're good at carrying things. They can be helpful. It's awesome.

For others, though, acts of service don't come so easily. For one Pug on Thursday, September 26th, he thought academia may be his calling. He tried his best to help his brother cram for his science test, and he definitely did make things memorable... just not in the most conventional way:

Timmy the Pug has an unconventional way of absorbing knowledge, but I respect it. If simply licking my notes was enough to pass tests when I was in school, by golly I would've done it!

Timmy's journey on TikTok first started in 2021, when his mom decided to start posting about him. He went viral almost immediately for two reasons: he's very sassy and his tongue is, for some reason, allergic to staying in his mouth. It's always sticking out. It's kind of amazing.

Generally, his tongue doesn't cause anybody any problems: it's just kind of hanging out. On this day, however, he ended up falling asleep mid-study session, and his tongue landed on a notecard. Luckily, the ink didn't smudge. If anything, Timmy made that specific topic easier for his brother to remember.

    Does this count as osmosis?

What to Do When Your Dog's Tongue Sticks Out

Some dogs are born with tongues that refuse to stay in their mouths. Other dogs' tongues try to fly the nest as they get older. For example, in Deadpool 2, the " Dogpool" character (who's actually a dog named Peggy) is a senior pup whose tongue hangs out at all times.

Dogs will often let their tongues hang out if they get hot or they're really happy. However, after a few minutes, they usually pull them back in. If they don't, there are usually two causes:

    1. Hanging Tongue Syndrome, which impacts dogs of any age (and typically brachycephalic breeds like Pugs).
    2. Tooth loss, which is why this phenomenon is so common in senior pups.

The best thing to do if you notice your dog's tongue hanging out often is to contact your vet immediately. Typically, the case isn't super severe, and you just have to make sure the tongue stays hydrated. If it is severe, corrective procedures can be done to reduce the size of the tongue so it sits in their mouth better.

Timmy and this notecard were kind of a perfect storm: his tongue had been hanging out, his saliva was sticky, and the notecard was looking for somewhere to go. I hope his brother does well on his test!
