Gray Cat 'Emerging' From the Couch Looks Like Something Out of a Horror-Comedy

If a cat feels like there's a cozy place to curl up, they're going to do exactly that, regardless of whether you want them to or not. It's almost a guarantee that you are not aware of all of their favorite napping spots - there's at least one that's well-hidden.

On Saturday, September 28th, one mom found this out the hard way. While she was trying to enjoy her movie night, she managed to catch video of her cat clawing his way out of the couch:

If I was @swoybaby, I probably would've had a cardiac incident. That is so scary!

This boy's name is Yoshi, and this isn't anywhere near the first time he's tried to scare his mother half to death: just hours before this was posted, Yoshi's mom rushed him to the emergency vet. According to her, he spent the whole night vomiting, so she took him in. There was nothing wrong. He's just Like That.

By comparison, maybe getting jump-scared by his claws in the couch isn't so bad. At least this one was free! Judging by the way he expertly emerges from the cushions, this is not the first time he's been in there!

Common Places For Cats to Hide

Cats love to hide, and most of the time, there's nothing wrong with that. They often choose relatively easy to find places, like inside laundry baskets, inside and under couches, and in boxes.

However, there are some places where cats like to hide that can be a little more dangerous, like:

    1. In the dryer
    2. Underneath cars
    3. Under decks and porches
    4. In cabinets

If there's an enclosed, dark space and you have a cat, there's a legitimate chance your cat may squeeze in and try to hide there. Before you shut any doors or turn on your car, do a quick scan to make sure you're not seeing any little paws or tails. You can also play a loud noise, knock, or honk the car's horn to startle them out of hiding.

Feral cats commonly take shelter in enclosed outdoor spaces in the winter, like cars, decks, and porches. If you need to, you can block those spaces off - or you can build them a shelter. Whatever feels right!

To prevent cats from hiding in unwanted places, you just need to be vigilant about not leaving any room for them to sneak in. Keep washer and dryer doors closed as well as the cabinets. If need be, you can even get locks to childproof them. As far as the couch hiding spot goes, though... That's always fair game!
