Some cats can't stand being separated from their pet parent even for a nanosecond. To them, it's the worst thing that could ever happen. Dave, the orange cat feels this every time his dad steps away, and he's not shy about making his suffering known.

Kat Newquist (@indooroutdoorkat) is a pro at capturing Dave's antics and sharing them with his legion of followers, and this time is no different. The minute-long TikTok video perfectly captures Dave doing what Dave does best—being so DAVE!—and it's hilarious. Check out this disgruntled kitty's tantrum of the century!

"Selections from the 20-minute tantrum Dave threw when Jackson had to take a business call outside," the video begins as Dave lies on the floor while meowing up at Mom. What follows is a series of cuts to Dave in various positions—on the chair, standing on his hind legs to see out the window, on the rug, and trying desperately to paw his way through the glass to get to Dad. It's classic Dave behavior, and we're here for it.

"Critical throwback because everyone on the internet should be aware of Dave’s plight," the caption says, and if you've not read up on his "plight," you're in for a wild ride. He's one of a kind, yet exhibits "Orange cat behavior" all in one, and his mass of fans are hanging on his every video to see what in the world Dave will do next.

"I thought the video was looping, but Dave’s anguish is simply eternal," one person wrote.

"No one suffers like Dave suffers," another said.

"Has Jackson considered quitting his job?" another joked, and in response, Kat said, "No, but Dave has considered quitting Jackson’s job for him," and that is so very on-brand.

    Can Cats Have Separation Anxiety?

The felines in our lives always seem so independent and indifferent about so much, but do they actually miss their pet parents when away from them? PetMD says cats can experience separation anxiety just like dogs do. Female cats are more likely to feel this way, but other contributing factors could be living indoors and/or having only one caregiver, not having any pet playmates, being orphaned as a kitten or weaned too early, and changes in routine.

Cats who have developed a strong attachment to their pet parent are more prone to these feelings. A few signs to look for include needing constant contact with their pet parent, excessive grooming or vocalization, litter box issues, vomiting, or destructive behaviors .

If you suspect your cat may be experiencing separation anxiety, there are some things you can do to alleviate it. Provide enrichment activities like puzzle feeders to keep them busy, but also maintain a consistent routine. Ignoring the attention-seeking behavior and praising them when they are calm may also help nip it in the bud.

Medications, relaxation techniques, and counterconditioning (offering a treat when you grab your car keys) are also a few ways to combat those feelings of abandonment. If all else fails, contact your vet for an evaluation to rule out any medical issues.

As for Dave, we're pretty confident his dad will never, ever leave him again so they can always be together.
