Adorable Basset Hound Melts Right Into the Floor During Joyful Belly Rubs

Considering how much human beings will pay for a massage, it's absolutely no surprise that dogs love to get pets so much. It's like a massage for pups, but it's free (then again, everything in their lives is free, so maybe that part matters a lot less for them). It's not unusual to see a dog totally begging to be pet, and to drop anything if their humans seem to be in a petting mood. As for my dog? The second you pull your hand away from her, she puts her paw on it to stop you. Shameless!

But if my dog reacted the way the Basset Hound in this Instagram video did, maybe I'd pet her a lot more often. This pup ended up melting right into a dog-shaped puddle, and people truly cannot get enough.

In this sweet post, @weezy_the_bhound shows us what happens when her Basset Hound , Weezy, is in a major zen mode thanks to the pets he's receiving. Essentially, this guy liquifies.

As he's laying there getting belly rubs from his human, he is totally blissed out, and his ears look truly huge! Of course, Basset Hounds are known for their long ears, but seeing them from this angle really puts it into perspective!

Unsurprisingly, commenters can't hold themselves back from gushing about just how cute Weezy is.

"I’m sorry, but I think your heat is on too high. You might wanna put the AC on. He’s starting to melt," one person wrote, while another commenter asked, "Who spilled the dog?" LOL!

With ears and a face as adorable as Weezy, though, I'd say he deserves far more belly rubs than he's getting. What a good boy!

Why Do Basset Hounds Have Such Long Ears?

As it turns out, this dog breed doesn't have long ears just for the aesthetic (though they only make these dogs cuter).

There's actually a purpose for them to have such long ears, according to the American Kennel Club (AKC). Aside from Bloodhounds, Basset Hounds have the best sense of smell out of all of the breeds, and their ears, surprisingly enough, help with that.

Their ears hang so low so they can help push smells closer to the dog's nose, and with so much skin and fur near their face, that scent stays close to their nose for a longer period of time to allow them a better chance at tracking whatever it is they're trying to pin down (or whatever mystery they're trying to solve, of course).

That means that Weezy's senses are always working overtime — another reason he has earned so many belly rubs. We don't deserve him!
