Orange Cat Who Can't Meow Finds the Most Polite Way to Ask His Humans for Attention

If you're a cat mom, you know that the noises they make are often their top way of communicating with us. Sometimes it's a meow (or a lot of meows when they're feeling chatty). Sometimes, it's purrs to say thank you when we give them pets and cuddles and how they let us know they love us. Other times, albeit more rarely, cats will make some unmistakably angry sounds that let you know they are not pleased with the current situation.

But what is a cat supposed to do if they aren't able to meow? Apparently, they improvise, which is what I've learned from the TikTok video below. This orange kitty isn't able to meow like other cats are, but that hasn't stopped him from figuring out exactly how to speak with his humans anyway.

In this video shared by @sanvincenteblvd , we meet an orange cat named Spaghetti (perfect name, no notes) who has had to become creative in order to overcome his lack of meowing abilities.

"Spaghetti doesn't know how to meow so he does this to get our attention," the cat's dad wrote, showing Spaghetti stretching up on his hind legs to tap the shoulder of the person sitting on the couch.

Yes, this is so smart, but what I really love about this video (and Spaghetti the cat in general) is that he's so polite about it. Just the most gentle little tap, followed by his excited but patient little face, waiting for pets.

It really is like he said "excuse me," but obviously, the cat version of it.

What's really wild is that there were several people in the comments with both dogs and cats who share Spaghetti's silence and have figured out how to do this, too. who would have thought?!

Why Do Some Cats Not Meow?

As The Spruce Pets pointed out, meowing isn't really a behavior that cats adopt to communicate with each other; it's more for them to be able to communicate with us using their voices.

Some adult cats simply aren't big meowers, so you may not hear much from them. It's not that they can't meow, it's just not part of their personality. Basically, they don't want to, and we all know what happens when a cat doesn't want to do something; They don't do it!

However, if your cat suddenly stops meowing when they used to do it regularly, you'll want to talk to your vet about it. There are a few different conditions this can point to, from hyperthyrodism, laryngeal paralysis, and even cancer, so it's best to get your kitty checked out ASAP!

Spaghetti just isn't a meower, and that's okay. He's figured out how to get the pets he needs!
