With the cold weather fast approaching, it’s time to pull out our warmer clothes. But even with our woolly sweaters on, we often seek additional heat sources once the temperatures drop.

Our animals often feel the same way, and many spend the winter camping out by the fireplace, on a heated bed, or in a sunny window. However, when it’s early in the season, some animals seek other sources of warmth, like this clever Oriental Shorthair, who found an ideal spot to get toasty.

Check out his perfectly positioned perch in this video from September 25:

Nacho isn’t only adorable; he’s also one smart cat! This Oriental Shorthair (@ orientalhonks ) astutely figured out that the dishwasher pops open during its dry cycle, omitting a delightful warm heat. He skillfully utilizes his front paws to lean on the open door, capturing the steam with his belly. His mom explains that he’s a fan of heat in general. This is especially true during the cooler seasons, and she reports he often snuggles under blankets for a nap. But he still occasionally makes an appearance so that he can leave a sock by the food bowl. Ha! That’s a unique way to say thank you or signal when he’s hungry.

    Traits of Oriental Shorthair Cats

Oriental Shorthairs are sleek and elegant, with striking features, such as a slender body, almond-shaped eyes, and large, expressive ears. According to PetMD, they are a Siamese-hybrid and come in various colors and patterns. Beyond their physical traits, they are known for their affectionate and outgoing personalities. They are very social and happy to communicate with their people, using their voices to make honking noises that sound like geese. These cats are also quite inquisitive and love exploring their surroundings, making them energetic and fun companions. While this hypoallergenic breed is prone to certain medical conditions, they are generally healthy and have an average lifespan of 12 to 15 years.

People were impressed with this cat’s ingenuity. Viewer @renetta_reno remarked, “I’m glad this gets you warmed up. I have to find different ways to get me warmed up, too. I put on long-sleeved shirts all the time when I get cold.” This is likely the next best thing for a kitty. Another person responded, “Just a big fan of thermodynamics.” That is undoubtedly true. Another person joked, “I like warm nachos too.” LOL! They are hard to resist, whether in food or feline form.

Hopefully, Nacho won’t find the winter weather too cold this year. But if it is, there’s always the dishwasher to keep him snuggly warm.
