Miss Peaches & Dave Portnoy Make Urgent Plea for Fosters Ahead of Hurricane Milton

In the eight months since Barstool Sports president Dave Portnoy adopted the precious Miss Peaches, she's quickly become one of the most famous and adored dogs on social media. It's easy to see why so many people fell in love with her so quickly — even though she had a rough start to her life, she learned to trust and make herself at home with her new dad, and it's been so heartwarming to follow her journey from day one. Though Miss Peaches has been saved, thousands upon thousands of other dogs remain in shelters, and right now, their situation is becoming quite urgent in some parts of the country.

As many areas of the southern United States are still grappling with the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, Hurricane Milton is quickly approaching Florida, and that has created a dire situation at one shelter that Dave is calling his followers' attention to.

On Sunday, October 6, Dave took to the @famousmisspeaches TikTok account to share an important PSA for his followers in south Florida in light of the oncoming hurricane.

"The Medley shelter is outside — that's a south Florida Miami Dade shelter," he said. "It's outside, they're expecting flooding, and need foster parents just Tuesday to Saturday for the doggies."

It sounds like they're looking for people to keep the dogs in their homes during the days the weather is supposed to be at its worst, so it's a very temporary foster situation. It's hard to imagine what a massive undertaking it must be to get all of the dogs living at the shelter into a home, but to keep everyone safe and protected, it has to happen — and fast.

How to Help the Medley Shelter Dogs

According to the organization Friends of Miami Animals, the shelter in Medley, Florida is actually an off-site shelter that's being used due to overcrowding throughout the Miami animal shelter system, which is why it's outdoors (not exactly ideal for these pups).

If you're in the position to take in a dog or two, the shelter has shared more information in a post on Instagram . All you have to do is send an email to asdfoster@miamidade.gov and let them know that you're able to open your home.

It's scary to think of how many dogs are in the path of this hurricane who don't have homes, but this is one way to help prevent some of them from experiencing the brunt of it. It's what Miss Peaches would want!

Here's hoping that Dave using his platform to call attention to this issue will help get these dogs to safety. They shouldn't have to ride out the hurricane in these conditions!
