Golden Retriever's Nose Whistle During Dinner Nap Throws Table Manners to the Wind

Rule number one of having a dog is to not let them eat at the dinner table, right? They've got no business being there. They will simply try to steal all of your food, and then they'll go in for a kiss. It's bad news.

Most of the time, anyway. On October 3rd, one dog dad posted his dog's unusual way of crashing their dinner party. To be honest, it's pretty iconic, and super relatable. If the meal doesn't make you want a nap nearly immediately afterward, did you even eat?

Honestly, I love that Levi Sebastian Blehm is including his pup, Goose, in the dinner festivities. If I didn't know my dogs were monsters, I might try this too!

Goose is just under two years old, which means he's on the cusp of adulthood, but he's definitely still a puppy, at least at heart. Goose is included in just about everything his family does, from trips to walks and even movie night. He's the star of the show, and he loves it.

Apparently, Goose also has a seat at the dinner table. Judging by the soft furry thing surrounding him, someone has even wrapped him in a blanket for maximum comfort. Luckily for them, Goose is an easy sleeper and was out like a light in seconds. That's certainly one way to enjoy a meal in peace!

Where Should a Dog Go During Dinner?

Even if you don't necessarily mind begging, it's still not a behavior you should encourage - you never know. Maybe something will happen and they'll need to spend a few days in someone else's home, and they need to have good manners.

If you want to make sure begging doesn't even become an issue, you should keep food and your dog separate at all times. Have a gate up so they can't access the kitchen or dining area. They might cry at the gate for a few days, but if you keep persistently ignoring it, they'll stop eventually. Dog parents usually tuck their pets away in places like these during mealtimes:

    1. Their crate.
    2. The living room.
    3. A bedroom or an office.
    4. If it's nice out and your yard permits, outside.

A good tip: always feed the dog their dinner right before you eat. That way, they'll be nice and full, so they won't bother you too terribly for your scraps. Additionally, as Goose shows us, dogs tend to get pretty sleepy right after they eat!
