Dachshund Avoids Stairs with Epic Dismount From Bed Like a Star Gymnast

Dachshunds have earned the reputation of doing "Dachshund things" for a reason. The sometimes daring, all the time sassy little pups live life to its fullest, but with a Doxie twist. Ricky "the Ween" is the perfect example of how these small but mighty dogs defy the laws of gravity—and the house rules—as he hops off the couch without a care in the world.

Sure, there are stairs Ricky could use, but that's boring. He wants to dismount the bed in his way, and that's exactly what he does in this hilarious clip. Watch him go!

"Careful of your Dachshund's back," the video, posted by @rickytheween , jokes. But Ricky cares not of a silly little thing like his back. The stairs his mom provided were not adequate for the pup, and he'd like her to know so. As a natural gymnast, Ricky's dismount spectacular, yet surprising. How can so much talent be packed into such a small body?

The comments section had a lot to say about Ricky's performance. Many chimed in to say Ricky's not alone—their dogs also avoid the stairs like the plague.

"Correct. Bought a set and both of my Dachshunds used it as a dang diving board," one person wrote.

"One of mine uses the ramp correctly the other one acts like it’s apart of his parkour routine," another added.

"Mine use them to get up on the couch and bed but then cannonball OFF. Like excuse me, that’s not going to help," another said.

Looks like Ricky isn't the only "Ween" practicing a gymnastic routine. Like I said, they're just doing Dachshund things!

    Dachshunds Have a Stubborn Streak

Anyone that's ever had a Dachshund will tell you that these pups make amazing pets, but they can also be, as PetMD also notes, "willful, headstrong, playful, and mischievous." This is because they were originally bred "to be independent hunters of dangerous prey," and because of that, they need to be courageous and brave with a can-do attitude. This can sometimes come off as just plain stubborn, but these smart, tenacious dogs are so much more than that.

Dachshunds do need an adequate amount of exercise so they can develop strong enough muscles to support their long, low backs. And yes, they are vulnerable to back injuries , which means things like jumping off a couch probably isn't the best idea, but they do what they want!

Sometimes, pet parents can put stairs or ramps up and their Doxies will use them just fine, but others, like Ricky and many of those who commented might find their dogs want nothing to do with them. In the end, all you can do is provide them with the options and hope for the best. But Dachshunds will do what Dachshunds do (and that's why we love them)!
