Cane Corso's Loyal Protection of Toddler Brother Is Too Cute to Resist

If your dog was your first baby before you had a human baby like mine was, there's a non-zero chance you spent much of the time leading up to your little one's arrival wondering how the dog and the baby were going to get along. Some dogs immediately accept a newborn as a member of the pack and are agreeable from the start, if not outright welcoming. Other dogs need to take a little more time to adjust — because after all, sharing your parents and their time with a loud, screaming person is a huge change!

It's impossible to predict how things will go until the baby and the dog come face to face. But where this toddler is concerned in the video below? His Cane Corso will always have his back.

Recently, dog and human mom Laura Pereira took to TikTok to share the sweetest footage of her Cane Corso , Kai, coming to the defense of her toddler son. She thought she was just taking a video of her son, Kai, and their Italian Mastiff, Bowser, playing together, but then she noticed something else about the video.

In the video, her son is running around and laughing, and when Bowser got close to the little boy, Kai snapped into action, barking and chasing his brother off. He doesn't want anyone getting near his baby!

"I didn't notice until after that our Corso was just protecting our baby," she wrote.

In another video of her dog son and human son playing together, she explained, "[Kai] is super chill with our toddler testing him on the daily LOL. We always have the two of them supervised but he has an unreal amount of patience with him."

Looks like this friendship is the real deal.

Do Cane Corsos Make Good Guard Dogs?

There's a reason that Kai jumped into action so quickly: Cane Corsos are a breed known for their protectiveness .

According to the American Kennel Club, dogs who belong to this breed have been known as guard dogs going all the way back to ancient Rome. They are very smart, they have an intimidating appearance, and are very loyal dogs, so they have all the makings of the ultimate protector.

The AKC pointed out that it's recommended for Cane Corsos to be socialized early and go through obedience training since they're so big and strong, and fortunately, they are very trainable animals because they love making their humans happy so much!

There's a good chance that Kai got a lot of pride out of being able to protect his tiny friend from their brother... even while they were just playing at home.

Kai is a good boy, and that toddler is lucky to have a protective friend like him!
